The American College of Preventive Medicine is a professional society for physicians dedicated to prevention. ACPM provides leadership in research, professional education, development of public policy, and enhancement of standards of preventive medicine for and on behalf of our members.

Preventive medicine is practiced by all physicians to keep their patients healthy. Preventive medicine specialists are trained in both clinical medicine and public health, and are equipped to understand and reduce the risks of disease, disability, and death in individuals and in population groups.

Faculty Needed for Project to Reduce Hypertension Rates of African-American Men
ANNOUNCEMENT – November 8, 2018

ACPM is seeking up to three members to serve as expert faculty as part of a project to reduce hypertension in African-American males ages 45-64. ACPM will work collaboratively with the CDC Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention to support providers, health care systems, and communities to address factors associated with uncontrolled hypertension in this priority population and develop and implement interventions. Population Health Experts Wanted to Help Develop CME Courses
Opportunity – October 18, 2018

ACPM is seeking up to four members to serve as expert faculty supporting the development of courses as part of a new CDC-funded initiative to create a Population Health Integration Curriculum. The two 1–1.5 CME/MOC courses will provide an overview of population health in an era of transforming healthcare system, and explore population-level strategies to influence social determinants of health to address cardiovascular disease and stroke prevention. ACPM Releases Case Study on Improving Outcomes for Women at High-Risk for Hypertension, CVD
News – October 9, 2018

ACPM is pleased to announce the release of a case study on the results of a demonstration project designed to improve hypertension management and cardiovascular disease (CVD) outcomes in low-income, uninsured or underinsured women aged 40-60 years. The case study documents the experiences of Mission of Hope Clinic and Truman Medical Centers, University Health Community Care at Linwood in referring patients to the Blood Pressure Self-Management program at the YMCA of Greater Kansas City, as well as the approaches, barriers, and scalability plans of each organization. ACPM has also developed four online education modules and a webinar series on prescribing lifestyle modifications for women at high-risk for hypertension and CVD.

Lifestyle Medicine Core Competencies Program
CME/MOC Education

Developed by ACPM and ACLM, the Lifestyle Medicine Core Competencies Program is an evidence-based online program designed to provide a comprehensive foundation for doctors as well as nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dietitians, health coaches, and other allied health professionals with an interest in learning the basic foundational principles of lifestyle medicine. Maintenance of Certification (MOC) is available for select medical specialties.

Webinar – March 17, 2018

The ACPM Young Physicians Section recently hosted a webinar on "Lifestyle Medicine Clinic Implementation: Billing & Finances" in which ACPM Board member Dr. Wayne S. Dysinger presented on the financial and clinical considerations of setting up a lifestyle medicine practice. Dysinger reviewed examples of billing and reimbursements models in traditional and emerging payment settings, as well as patient care models that include group visits. No CME is available for this webinar.
