The American College of Preventive Medicine is a professional society for physicians dedicated to prevention. ACPM provides leadership in research, professional education, development of public policy, and enhancement of standards of preventive medicine for and on behalf of our members.

ACPM Mission

Preventive medicine is practiced by all physicians to keep their patients healthy. Preventive medicine specialists are trained in both clinical medicine and public health, and are equipped to understand and reduce the risks of disease, disability, and death in individuals and in population groups.

Culinary Medicine Course Now Available for Medical Professionals
August 30, 2017

The American College of Preventive Medicine has released a new continuing medical education course on culinary medicine. Available as an elective of the Lifestyle Medicine Core Competencies Program for 1.5 CME, the online course examines what patients face day-to-day when trying to make substantive lifestyle changes and features recipes and cooking techniques that help patients use nutrition and good cooking habits to restore and maintain health.

Call for Diabetes Prevention Proposals
August 24, 2017

ACPM announces a call for grant proposals for health care providers and health systems to develop new practice setting models that address the national type 2 diabetes epidemic. This grant program aims to increase awareness, screening, testing, and referral of patients with prediabetes to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognized diabetes prevention programs to prevent type 2 diabetes. Proposal applications are due by October 10, 2017.

Funding for the Public Health Workforce Senate Letter
August 8, 2017

ACPM joined 20 organizations in a letter to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Health, Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies, advocating for funding for Public Health Workforce Programs. The letter expresses the need for full funding in the FY18 appropriations bill for both preventive medicine residency programs and Public Health Training Centers.

Thirty one directors from preventive medicine residency programs and Public Health Training Centers signed onto a letter to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Health, Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies. In the letter, the directors stress that their programs are vital to a strong public health system in the United States and losing these programs would jeopardize the readiness to address the country's healthcare challenges.

Lifestyle Medicine Core Competencies Program
CME/MOC Education

Developed by ACPM and ACLM, the Lifestyle Medicine Core Competencies Program is an evidence-based online program designed to provide a comprehensive foundation for doctors as well as nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dietitians, health coaches, and other allied health professionals with an interest in learning the basic foundational principles of lifestyle medicine. Maintenance of Certification (MOC) is available for select medical specialties.
