When I started my term as President, I committed to several aspirational goals and objectives: Strengthen our financial foundations given the fiscal challenges we face; transform our strategic vision and plan given health care’s evolving landscape; elevate our impacts through sustainable partnerships and more effective advocacy; and nurture the next generation of preventive medicine leaders through mentorship, pipeline development, and better career building pathways.
Let me provide a brief update on a few key initiatives for ACPM in furtherance of these priorities. The year ahead promises to be a transformative one for the College, and we are all working to make ACPM the valued professional home you all deserve. As we launch into the next chapter of our journey, we welcome your leadership and engagement in our efforts, so reach out and get involved.
- Board Elections: The upcoming elections for the Board of Regents will be critical in setting the strategic direction for the College. We had the largest number of nominations ever for our open leadership positions, and we have a talented group of candidates. Ensure that your voice is heard, and vote by September 14, 2025.
- New Business Line: Michael Crupain and Samar Muzzafar helped plan and launch ACPM Advisory, a wholly owned for-profit subsidiary, focused on consulting opportunities that align to our ACPM values as a benefit for our members and as a strategy for strengthening the financial foundations for the College. More to come!
- Membership Initiatives: Prasad Acharya and the Membership Committee are continuing their focus on leadership opportunities for our members; support for the relaunched YPS, RPS, and MSS sections; and improvements to our member experiences at all levels. These initiatives remain core priorities for ACPM.
- Blumenthal Lecture 2025: This year’s Blumenthal Lecture will be on October 22, 2025, focused on Rural Health and will honor several stellar rural health leaders: Tom Morris (HRSA ORHP), Peter Kaboli (VHA ORH), Hilda Heady (NRHA), and Kyu Rhee (NACHC). Join us in Washington, D.C. for the lecture and for the reception to follow!
- Preventive Medicine 2026: Jennifer Chevinsky and the PM2026 Planning Committee have kicked off our planning for the Preventive Medicine meeting in Baltimore (May 14-17, 2026) with a focus on Securing the Future of Preventive Medicine and Public Health. Join us for what promises to be an exciting meeting, and submit an abstract as well.
- History Update: We commissioned an update to our ACPM History (which was last updated for our 50th anniversary). We have over 70 years now of proud milestones, accomplishments, and member successes to celebrate! We want to honor our legacy and leadership from the past while focusing on our growing momentum for the future.
- Past President’s Council: We chartered a new ACPM Past President’s Council to ensure that we share the legacy of leadership and provide essential institutional knowledge about where the College has been and where we should aspire to go. Our Past Presidents will join our leadership retreat to advise on future strategic directions.
- Policy Advocacy: Jim Tacci provided a recent ACPM Update on our advocacy efforts to educate the Administration and Congress about a myriad of policy issues, with an emphasis on the physician workforce and Graduate Medical Education (GME) reform. Our thanks as well to Noah Isenstein and our Advocacy Committee for their hard work!
Other recent ACPM Updates have covered exciting news about our Artificial Intelligence in Preventive Medicine & Public Health certification course, our Climate and Health Special Interest Group, our advocacy efforts with respect to the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) and the CDC Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP), and other important developments. I encourage you to stay informed and to stay engaged.
