Building Capacity of Coaches to offer National DPP Lifestyle Change Program

Over the past three years, ACPM has raised the awareness of prediabetes as a serious health condition among providers and health care professionals and built the capacity of these providers to screen, test and refer their patients with prediabetes to a CDC-recognized National DPP Lifestyle Change Program. Building on this experience,  ACPM has received a grant from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of Diabetes Translation to collaborate with the International Consortium for Health and Wellness Coaching to develop a training program for coaches who offer the National DPP Lifestyle Change Program in groups.

Project Details

ACPM will collaborate with the International Consortium for Health and Wellness Coaching (ICHWC) to lead the development of a DPP group coaching certificate program for lay and credentialed coaches.  The overall approach will include

  1. Working closely with CDC’s Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT), ICHWC, to collaboratively guide project activities;
  2. Finalize the DPP Group Coaching Core Competencies (Competencies);
  3. Working with ICHWC  and National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) to complete item review and form review and developing draft exam form for the the DPP Group Coaching Certificate Examination (Examination);  and
  4. Developing the DPP Group Coaching Certificate Training Program (Program);

While ICHWC will take the lead in developing the Competencies, the Program, and the Examination, ACPM will oversee the whole project, offer mentorship, provide feedback and ensure timely progress for developing the final deliverables in line with the adult learning principles.
