Last week, we hosted Day 1 of Preventive Medicine 2020 Online. Thank you to everyone who attended, and we're looking forward to days two and three!
Highlights:
- Dr. Rajeev Venkayya and ACPM President Dr. Stephanie Zaza opened the meeting with an extensive discussion on the scientific, political and social considerations to the development of a COVID-19 vaccine, as well as the public health response to COVID-19 in general. The moderated discussion concluded with an engaging Q&A session, with questions submitted by PM 2020 Online attendees
- Core sessions of the meeting included discussions on:
- Community resilience and well-being and the intersections between clinical care and the upstream policy and community building activities that can secure long term health and prevent disease, especially as it applies to trauma prevention.
- Cardiovascular health in rural America, and the unique challenges faced by rural health systems due to low population density and other geographic factors, unique patient demographic factors, and limited funding - as well as prevention oriented solutions to the challenges they face
- Digital health training and the critical role of digital literacy for the future physician - empowering them to use online tools to streamline operations, improve patient care and build more durable and equitable health systems
- Innovation in preventive medicine training - what role does the preventive medicine physician play in the healthcare system, and what skills are essential for them to develop to fulfill it?
We closed the day with a number of networking sessions, both expanding on the discussions of the day and providing the opportunity for attendees to connect in small groups of 3-4 and build relationships with their colleagues in preventive medicine.
