RPS Governing Council

The RPS Governing Council sets priorities and conducts the business of the Section. Officers serve 1-year terms and are charged with managing communications, policy and education, membership and recruitment, and other general activities.

Current Officers

Heather Leisy, MD, MBA

Dr. Leisy is originally from Virginia. She graduated from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology with Honors and minor in Chemistry. She then attended medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Additionally, she obtained a Master in Business Administration in the physician executive program at the University of Tennessee. She is dedicated to advancing the wellbeing of those in medicine and has served in multiple leadership position to accomplish this goal with the most recent being President of the America Medical Women's Association Resident Division. She is now located at Stony Brook where she is a Preventive Medicine resident.

Jyothi Gunta, MD
VP of Membership & Recruitment

Dr. Gunta is currently the chief resident at the Florida Palm Beach County General Preventive Medicine/Public Health Residency program. She is a MPH candidate at NOVA Southeastern University. She received her MD from Saint Petersburg State Medical Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. She completed two years of pediatrics residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Her professional interests include occupational medicine, health equity, education and policy. Outside of medicine, she is an international traveler, enjoys learning new languages, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Lili Buzsaki, MD
VP of Policy and Education

Dr. Buzsaki is enrolled in the General Preventive Medicine Residency at the University of Kentucky. She received her medical degree from Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary and completed an internship in Pediatrics at Saint Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. She is currently completing a Masters in Public Health. Her professional interests include Maternal and Child Health, especially breastfeeding, health care policy, and mental health promotion.

Candace Tannis, MD, MPH
Vice President for External Affairs

Dr. Tannis is currently enrolled in the General Preventive Medicine Residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Her primary focus is improving disparities in pediatric environmental health and chronic disease outcomes. She received her medical degree from NYU School of Medicine and her Masters of Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health in Health and Social Behavior. She began her clinical training in pediatrics before transitioning to preventive medicine. Her other professional interests include community-based participatory research and engagement, and expanding medical student awareness of the preventive medicine field.

S. Sanjay Sirpal, MD, JD
Vice President for External Affairs

Dr. Sirpal joins the ACPM RPS Leadership Team as Vice President for External Affairs. He is a PGY-2 pursuing a multi-specialty certification training program in Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Family Medicine, and Internal Medicine at the l'Université de Montréal in Montréal, Canada. He holds both medical and law doctoral degrees and has a longstanding interest in the clinical, legal/advocacy, and scientific aspects of preventive medicine. In addition to his new position on the Board, he also is on the executive leadership team of the Young Doctors in Public Health, an organization dedicated to educating medical professionals and the public on matters of public health.

Margarita Ramos, MD, MPH
VP of Communications

Dr. Ramos is a General Preventive Medicine resident at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School after completing 5 years of general surgery at Harvard. She received her medical degree from University of Washington, with a concentration on Indian Health and a master in Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health. She received the Paul Farmer's Global Surgery Fellowship From Harvard Medical School, where she acted as a consultant for international organizations, such as Operation Smile. Her research in public health has taken her to Peru, Dominican Republic, India, and Madagascar. Her professional interests include wound healing and wound prevention, environmental health, global health, life style medicine, medical anthropology and using statistical modeling for cost-effective health care delivery. She enjoys healthy cooking, teaching yoga, running, sailing and ocean sports in her free time. Her love for other cultures and languages stems from her multicultural upbringing in Venezuela and Puerto Rico. This love has led her to travel to China learning about Traditional Chinese Medicine and continue to seek out experiences to understand effective communication and community building across economical, social, ethnic and national frontiers.

Regan A. Stiegmann, DO, MPH
Immediate Past President

Dr. Stiegmann completed her Preventive Medicine residency training at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD in 2017. In 2016, she was elected as the Young Director for the American College of Lifestyle Medicine's Board of Directors. She is a Captain in the United States Air Force. She received her medical degree from Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine (RVUCOM) in Parker, CO including a military medicine honors track. She completed a traditional rotating internship at Columbus Regional Health, Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, GA. She has a strong passion for Lifestyle Medicine and the promotion of mindfulness in health care. Her professional interests include positive psychology, human performance optimization, health care efficiency, mental health, sexual health, as well as the study of philosophical, quantum, and anthropologic medicine. Outside of medicine, she enjoys photography, dancing, gardening, cooking, and adventuring. She is currently working at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO as a Flight Surgeon. As a Denver native, she is ecstatic to return to Colorado to further pursue her career in Preventive and Lifestyle Medicine.
