Joannie Shen, MD, MPH, PhD, FACPM

Joannie Shen, MD, MPH, PhD, FACPM is a Regent-at-Large of the American College of Preventive Medicine, interested in promoting population wellness, preventing aging-associated functional declines in physical, cognitive, and social domains; and empowering historically disadvantaged communities to achieve improved health. Currently consults in international settings, Dr. Shen is board-certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine, American Board of Family Medicine, and American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine. She graduated from University of Southern California (B.S.); received two doctorates respectively from USC Keck School of Medicine (M.D.), and UCLA School of Public Health (Ph.D. and M.P.H. in Health Services). She is a graduate of the CDC Preventive Medicine Program.

Dr. Shen conducted clinical research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), worked on medical devices' pre-market approval and post-market surveillance at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and provided technical support to state partners as a medical epidemiologist at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Shen received over 20 awards for her services in public health and medical research; published as the lead author in JAMA, Medical Care, Preventive Medicine, Expert Review in Health Outcomes Research, among other peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Shen also served on the National Committee for Quality Assurance advisory panel for healthcare performance measures. Dr. Shen taught introductory clinical medicine at UCLA; integrative medicine lectures in Korea with Harvard Medical International; and served as a faculty member for joint Emory/CDC Executive courses in epidemiology. Dr. Shen served as a volunteer physician in mobile clinics in Maryland, California, on ship shelter in Mississippi post Hurricane Katrina; and was recognized as a Goodwill Ambassador representing California to Emilia-Romagna, Italy.
