The Office of the Associate Director for Science at CDC would like to invite you to Public Health Grand Rounds. CDC’s Public Health Grand Rounds is a monthly webcast created to foster discussion on major public health issues. Each session focuses on key challenges related to a specific health topic, and explores cutting-edge scientific evidence and potential impact of different interventions. This month’s session of Grand Rounds, "Breaking the Silence – Public Health’s Role in Intimate Partner Violence Prevention” will occur on June 19, at 1 p.m. (EDT).

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a serious public health problem in the United States. IPV includes physical violence, sexual violence, threats of physical or sexual violence, stalking, and psychological aggression (including coercive tactics) by a current or former intimate partner. IPV may occur among cohabitating or non-cohabitating romantic or sexual partners and among opposite or same sex couples. Recent CDC reports highlight the heavy toll that sexual violence, stalking, and intimate partner violence place on adults in this country.

Please join us for this powerful session of Grand Rounds where we will explore prevention efforts aimed at reducing the occurrence of intimate partner violence through the promotion of healthy, respectful, nonviolent relationships. These prevention efforts must address change at the individual, relationship, community, and societal levels.

We would like to ask you to promote this event as well as future Public Health Grand Rounds to your list serve, members, and affiliates via email and/or website. Target audiences for Grand Rounds include but are not limited to physicians, nurses, epidemiologists, pharmacists, veterinarians, health education specialists, health communication specialists, laboratorians, and others in the field.

This is a great opportunity for you and your colleagues to stay abreast of current public health issues in addition to receiving continuing education opportunities if needed. Future Grand Rounds topics include global tobacco control and high impact HIV prevention. View www.cdc.gov/about/grand-rounds every third Tuesday at 1 PM Eastern time to view the live webcast. Registration is not required.

Sign up to receive Grand Rounds updates and feel free to share this information with others in the public health field. Email your questions about this topic before or during the session.
