---------------------------------------------
Whereas, The American Medical Association
is committed to improving the quality of
health care service delivery and to
encouraging physician involvement in
community strategies for improving the
health of populations; and
Whereas,
The Task Force on Community Preventive
Services (Task Force) is a 15-member,
independent, non-federal task force
brought together to provide evidence-based
recommendations for population health
promotion and disease prevention
interventions in both the health care
system and community settings via its Guide
to Community Preventive Services; and
Whereas,
The Task Force's community-based
recommendations will complement the
clinical recommendations of the Guide
to Clinical Preventive Services, which
has been acknowledged by the AMA as a
resource for practicing physicians
(H-410.967); and
Whereas,
The Task Force recommendations are based
on rigorous scientific methods for
assessing the evidence; and
Whereas,
The Task Force is developing
recommendations in 15 major public health
topic areas (tobacco, physical activity,
nutrition, sexual behavior, alcohol use,
substance abuse, vaccine preventable
diseases, cancer, depression, improving
pregnancy outcomes, violence prevention,
oral health, motor vehicle occupant
injuries, diabetes, sociocultural
environment), and releasing
recommendations and reviews for topical
areas as they are completed in order to
ensure timely implementation; and
Whereas,
The Task Force has completed systematic
reviews and made recommendations on 32
separate interventions within two topical
areas (improve vaccination coverage among
children, adolescents, and adults, and
reduce tobacco use and exposure to
environmental tobacco smoke), and those
recommended services can be immediately
implemented; and
Whereas,
The Task Force will complete reviews and
recommendations for 13 additional key
public health topics and publish these
topics as they are completed over the next
3-4 years; and
Whereas,
The American Medical Association is
involved in the development, review and
dissemination of Task Force reviews and
recommendations via AMA’s liaison member
to the Task Force; therefore be it

That our AMA establish a process to
consider endorsing each set of completed
reviews and recommendations associated
with the Guide to Community Preventive
Services as they are periodically
published by the Task Force on Community
Preventive Services; and be it further

RESOLVED,
That our AMA publicize (e.g., in its
journals and newsletters) the reviews and
recommendations, as well as any AMA
