Slate Election Call for Nominations

As described in the recently announced ACPM Board of Regents Slate Election Policy, ACPM is announcing the 2018 Call for Nominations. Because of the change in policy, we are operating on a compressed timeline for this round of elections. Thus, this announcement includes the timeline, assessment of needed Board competencies, and call for nominations.

Three positions are open for election in this cycle:

  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Regent-at-Large

You may want to reference the officer position descriptions or the outline of Regent responsibilities.

Currently, all three positions are held by incumbents who are eligible to serve for a second term (Secretary Dr. Wendy Braund, Treasurer Dr. Mirza Rahman, Regent Dr. Ryung Suh). The incumbent board members will be considered for the slate, along with other nominated candidates.

Assessment of Board Competencies

The ACPM Strategy and Board Development Committee determined the current Board of Regents has a reasonable balance across the four competency domains, with the understanding that the small size of the ACPM board makes complete representation of our diverse specialty difficult. This determination was based on the Board of Regents Competencies.

The Strategy and Board Development Committee also assessed gaps in skills and experience of the Board members with respect to our current strategic priorities. Certain applications of our shared skills in preventive medicine could be better represented on the Board. These include:

  • Strategic communication, messaging and marketing – These skills are aligned with the current strategic priority of the College to increase the visibility of our profession, particularly with respect to the intense interest and activity in public health and health care transformation.
  • Public health and clinical informatics – A high priority of the College is to expand our membership to include preventive medicine practitioners in fields that are part of our ABPM board certification but are underrepresented in our College membership.
  • Healthcare system and insurance/payor administration – Having influence in public health and health care transformation requires deep understanding of how healthcare systems and payor organizations work.

We encourage consideration of all Fellows including those within the Young Physician Section. We would like to have increased representation of women, minorities and geographic locations outside of the East coast. ACPM is committed to diversity on its board and we ask for your nominations to consider these factors.
