Future Leaders in Preventive Medicine Travel Grant



The American College of Preventive Medicine is pleased to offer eligible candidates one of twenty $500 travel grants to attend Preventive Medicine 2017 (ACPM's annual meeting). Eligible candidates must be medical students, who are ACPM members, and interested in preventive medicine and public health. Candidates selected to receive a travel grant within the last three years, are not eligible to apply.  The application deadline is Friday, April 21, 2017.

About this year's meeting:

Preventive Medicine 2017, the annual meeting of the American College of Preventive Medicine, is the leading annual gathering of physicians, health professionals, health care organizations, government agencies, and others committed to disease prevention and health promotion. The conference theme is "Achieving Health Equity through Prevention." Through this theme, our meeting will explore the many ways we are working to achieve health equity through the diverse programs that are encompassed by the specialty of Preventive Medicine and Public Health. Sessions will highlight achievements, opportunities and gaps, as well as provide opportunities to learn new skills and methods to bring to the task.

Conference Rate: $239 (plus tax)

Eligibility Requirements:

1. Applicants MUST be a current member of ACPM's Medical Student Section.

2. Applicants MUST be currently enrolled in, and attending medical school.

3. Applicants MUST attend the ACPM Preventive Medicine 2017 meeting.

4. Conference (Wednesday-Friday) attendance is required. Attendees must be able to attend required events during the meeting. 

5. Applicants MUST submit their application by April 21, 2017.

Note: Candidates selected to receive a travel grant within the last three years, are not eligible to apply.

Application/Award Process:

The application submission process is now ONLINE! Please complete all sections of the grant application (below), and be sure to upload your resume/CV. Incomplete applications will not be considered.  Applications must be received by January 16, 2017.

Candidates who are selected for a travel grant will receive:

  • One $500 check to reimburse meeting expenses (e.g., airfare, hotel, meals, etc.)
  • One complimentary basic meeting registration (spouse/guest passes are not included)
  • One ticket to the ACPM Awards Banquet (spouse/guest passes are not included)

NOTE: Travel grants are not provided in advance of the Preventive Medicine 2017 meeting. Awardees will be given a code to register for a complimentary basic registration, and receive the travel grant onsite (in the form of a check) at the Preventive Medicine 2017 registration desk.

Disclaimer (please read carefully):

Travelships/Grants will be awarded to twenty candidates for Preventive Medicine 2017. Awardees shall not receive more than one travelship to attend the Preventive Medicine 2017 meeting. Travelships/Grants are awarded at the sole discretion of the American College of Preventive Medicine based on applicant essays, available funding and satisfaction of all eligibility requirements. Candidates selected to receive a travel grant within the last three years of Preventive Medicine 2017, are not eligible to apply.

All decisions shall be considered final, without exception, unless a selectee is unable to attend the Preventive Medicine 2017 or is otherwise found to be ineligible for receipt of the travelship/grant. Failure to complete the travelship/grant application in its entirety shall be cause for immediate disapproval of a candidate's application.

Need a roommate at PM2017?

Interested in rooming with another student during the meeting? Volunteers from the Medical Student Section are working on a rooming list for students (only) this year. MSS involvement is limited to providing a list of students interested in sharing a room onsite at the annual meeting. 

By completing the "Roommate Request Form", you agree to to assume any liabilities and responsibilities (financial or otherwise), that are associated with this arrangement. Roommates are solely responsible for working together to coordinate all arrangement. ACPM is not responsible for no-shows, and assumes no responsibility or oversight (financial or otherwise) for roommate arrangements.

Complete the request form online. Faxed or mailed forms will not be accepted.

Travel Grant Application

Applicants must provide an essay (1,000 word max.) which explains your interest in preventive medicine, and any related training or experiences which have encouraged this interest. Your essay will be strongly considered during application review. Also provide a copy of your resume/CV. Applications will be considered incomplete without both your essay AND resume/CV. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
