Young Physician Section opportunities
 

YPS is seeking volunteers for leadership opportunities with the AMA and within ACPM. Please review the information and fill out a contact form at the bottom of this page if you are interested.  Please contact Jessica Bradshaw at jbradshaw@acpm.org or 202-466-2044 ext 112 if you have any questions.

President
1. Directs YPS so that its actions further ACPM goals.
2. Provides liaison between YPS and the ACPM office.
3. Bears primary responsibility for defining YPS’s work scope, pace and priorities within the overall guidelines determined by the bylaws and guidance by ACPM.
4. Communicates with the Board any policy recommendations made by YPS, informs the Board of significant developments and seeks the Board’s advice when ACPM policy is unclear.
5. Keeps ACPM office informed of significant YPS activities by communication with the staff liaison.
6. Sees that copies of relevant records and correspondence are kept at ACPM headquarters to be available for the next YPS President.
7. Determines the optimum time and location of YPS meetings, prepares agendas, and provides any necessary advance material to YPS members, Presidents the meetings, sees that minutes are recorded and approved by YPS and that copies of those minutes are forwarded to the ACPM office.
8. Prepares two reports annually of YPS’s activities and projected plans and submits to the Board of Regents prior to the fall and spring meetings.
9. Sees that YPS selects replacements for outgoing members whose terms are expiring. All terms expire immediately following the annual meeting, including the President.
10. Responds in a timely manner to inquiries by the ACPM office and Board of Regents.
11. Appoints members of YPS to serve as liaison with other committees/membership sections and accepts liaison members from other committees/membership sections at his /her discretion.
12. Sees that YPS members fully participate and directs YPS discussions towards clear and meaningful decisions.
13. Serves as a Mentor to other ACPM members via the ACPM Mentoring Program.

 

President Elect
1. Works with the President to implement YPS’s activities and priorities within the overall guidelines determined by the bylaws and guidance by ACPM.
2. Assume the responsibilities of the President in his or her absence
3. Accept responsibilities delegated by the President such as representing the President at allied organization meetings and any other duties as appropriate
4. Takes on special projects for the advancement of YPS goals
5. Serves as a Mentor to other ACPM members via the ACPM Mentoring Program.
Secretary-General
1. Assist with coordinating the agenda for each conference call
2. Takes minutes and converts them to action items
3. Coordinates social dinner/activity at the annual conference.
4. Takes on special projects for the advancement of YPS goals
5. Serves as a Mentor to other ACPM members via the ACPM Mentoring Program.

 

AMA YPS Assembly Representatives
1. Acts as liaisons between the ACPM YPS and the AMA YPS Assembly.
2. Exercises full voting privileges in the Assembly to advance ACPM policy at the AMA YPS Section.
3. Provide policy information and develop tools and services targeted for the young physician members’ audience of ACPM.
4. Takes on special projects for the advancement of YPS goals
5. Serves as a Mentor to other ACPM members via the ACPM Mentoring Program.
Notes: Twice a year, ACPM's YPS sends representatives to the AMA's YPS Assembl. Assembly representatives must be AMA members and able to attend the semi-annual AMA YPS Assembly without financial assistance. ACPM does not subsidize travel or registration.

 

Immediate Past President (President)
1. Attends Scheduled YPS meetings
2. Represent the YPS, as requested, at official functions with private and public organizations
3. Takes on special projects for the advancement of YPS goals
4. Serves as a Mentor to other ACPM members via the ACPM Mentoring Program.
5. Serve in a consultation role to the President of the YPS
