Who can join ACPM?

ACPM is a physician-only membership constituency. Therefore, you must be a licensed physician (MD or DO) to join the College. Membership is also extended to medical students through the ACPM Medical Student Section. Please click here for more information.

Why should I join ACPM?

ACPM is the professional medical society of nearly 3,000 physicians devoted to advancing the practice, research and teaching of the Preventive Medicine specialty. We provide advocacy, education, training, networking opportunities and more for physicians and medical students interested in disease prevention and population health. If you are a physician or medical student with an interest these areas, we welcome you as a member. I am presently a member of ACPM. How may I become more involved?

As a membership organization, ACPM relies on the volunteer spirit of our membership, in conjunction with staff, to accomplish the objectives and business of the College. Much of this important work is done through ACPM Committees. Please review the Committee list and email the staff liaison with a statement of interest and a CV for any committee you are interested in joining.

How may I become a Fellow of ACPM?

The basic qualifications for ACPM Fellowship candidacy are as follow:

  • Candidate must be a physician who has been at the ACPM (Full) Member level for at least three years
  • Candidate's membership must have been in good standing for the three years prior to applying for ACPM Fellowship
  • Candidate must possess documentation of service to ACPM and the Preventive Medicine specialty (contributed papers, articles, service to the community (via prevention programs; etc.)

Excellent ways to demonstrate service to the College include committee participation, content reviews, management of press inquiries; etc.). Members may advance to Fellowship by completing a supplemental Fellowship application online.

Without exception, applications must be accompanied by payment of a non-refundable $50 application fee, and documentation to support the service and contributions listed on your Fellowship application. The attached link will direct you concerning the types of documentation necessary. Incomplete applications will be rejected.

Complete applications will be forwarded to the ACPM Membership Committee for consideration. Candidates will be notified of the Committee's decision by email and/or mail . New Fellows are recognized Fellows may vote and are eligible to hold office. Dues for  the 2009 membership term are $310.00. (A subscription to the American Journal of Preventive Medicine is included.)

How should I pay membership dues?

ACPM accepts payment by credit card or check. Online payment via credit card is recommended for faster processing. Online processing also allows each member to login to your member profile and retrieve payment confirmation; etc. Please visit the homepage of our website ( and select the "Forgot Password" link to retrieve your password. If your email address has changed, please contact Member Services to obtain the information. If you prefer to pay your membership dues by check, you may also mail your payment to:
