Meeting with AMA Staff to
Coordinate Efforts on Capitol Hill
ACPM staff met with Todd Askew and Heather Smith from
the AMA to strategize how the AMA will proceed with the
support it has pledged to promote preventive medicine
residency training. In June, the AMA House of Delegates

at the grassroots level.

the next steps on obtaining funding for preventive
medicine residency training. Senator Harkin currently
has a bill proposed (S.1074) that calls for $43 million

planned strategies to gain bipartisan support for
preventive medicine training and agreed to work together
to move this agenda forward.

for Preventive Medicine Residency Funding

members of the House of Representatives to share ACPM’s

ACPM staff attended the national launch event of the
2005 Covering Kids & Families Back-to-School Campaign.

Foundation, is dedicated to informing parents with
uninsured children that they may be eligible for health
care coverage under Medicaid or SCHIP (State Children’s
Health Insurance Program). Speakers at the event
included US Surgeon General Richard Carmona. Covering
Kids & Families is partnering with many organizations to
promote the message that low-cost and free health care
coverage is available and that parents can call 1 (877)
