Founded
in 1954, the American College of
Preventive Medicine (ACPM) is the preeminent national professional society for
physicians committed to disease prevention and health promotion. As the leader for the specialty of Preventive
Medicine and physicians dedicated to prevention, ACPM improves the health of
individuals and populations through evidence-based health promotion, disease
prevention, and systems-based approaches to improving health and health care. ACPM represents more than 2,500 preventive
medicine physicians working in such fields as public health and healthcare
administration, quality improvement, outbreak surveillance and investigation,
teaching, research, clinical practice, corporate counsel, and public policy
development, to name just a few.
POSITION
The
Center Director will be responsible for leading the Health Resources and
Services Administration (HRSA)-funded National coordinating center for
Integrative Medicine, which ACPM has named the Integrative Medicine in
Preventive Medicine Education (IMPriME) center.
The purpose of the Center, which is funded under a cooperative agreement,
is to create a sustainable, Preventive Medicine-specific infrastructure to
provide technical support for Preventive Medicine Residency and other health
professions training programs interested in incorporating evidence-based
integrative medicine content into their programs. The Center Director will convene,
administer and sustain a Community of Learning for integrative medicine and
preventive medicine that includes partners in Preventive Medicine training,
primary care, other health professions—including but not limited to nursing,
dentistry and pharmacy—and complementary and alternative medicine (CAM)
practitioners from a wide variety of practice modalities. This learning community will form the basis
for sharing best practices, creating and validating evaluation instruments, and
disseminating shared experiences to the wider integrative medicine, Preventive
Medicine, primary care, other health professions and CAM practitioner
audiences.
The
specific responsibilities of this position are to:
- Provide
Preventive Medicine-specific technical assistance to preventive medicine and
primary care residency training programs, including other related disciplines
with an interest in integrative medicine.
- Provide
support for coordination and evaluation of integrative medicine faculty
development programs in preventive medicine and primary care training programs.
- Collect
data to evaluate efforts to incorporate integrative medicine into preventive
medicine and primary care educational programs by developing, disseminating and
deploying high-quality measurement tools for program evaluation and assessment
of outcomes and impact from these efforts (both single-program and nationwide
efforts).
- Disseminate
best practices and lessons learned from all programs participating in the
IMPriME National Coordinating Center.
- Support
the work of the project steering committee and the Community of Learning, and ensure
regular communication with and across the various IMPriME partners in a
structured and efficient manner to allow for maximum work flow.
- Conduct
site visits to preventive medicine residency training programs working to
incorporate integrative medicine curricula into their residency training
programs to collect programmatic and evaluative data, assess needs, and arrange
for technical assistance.
- Manage
$800,000, two-year budget, including several subcontracts, and complete all reports,
correspondence and other documents that emanate from IMPriME.
- Oversee
the work of the project team, including a project coordinator, an
analyst/evaluation specialist, and other staff, subcontractors, faculty, and
consultants to meet the goals of the IMPriME center.
- Serve
as the key spokesperson on behalf of ACPM for the work of the IMPriME center.
- Serve
as the primary staff liaison to HRSA, the IMPriME grantor.
QUALIFICATIONS
The
successful candidate will be a seasoned professional with five or more years of
progressive experience in program management in the health care or public
health arena. A combination of many of
the following attributes is desired:
Experience
managing government grants for non-profit organizations, including managing
large budgets. - Direct
experience with postgraduate medical education programs.
- A
track record of successful relationship-building between and among non-profit
associations and academic organizations.
- Strong
quantitative and qualitative analytical expertise, including development and
use of program evaluation metrics.
- Ability
to distill evaluation data into clear and concise written reports for multiple
audiences.
- Experience
staffing and responding to the needs of high level committees, advisory groups,
and coalitions or learning communities.
- Demonstrated
experience managing staff, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Excellent
verbal, written, and presentation skills with demonstrated ability to lead
diverse project teams.
A bachelor’s degree is required with advanced
degree in health sciences, policy, or education preferred. Completion of an ACGME-accredited Preventive
Medicine residency training program with program management experience may be
substituted for direct field experience.
