Membership Committee Report

October 2001

Chair: Miriam Alexander                                         taff: Jennifer Edwards/David Dauphinais

The Membership Committee is pleased to share current membership information with the Board of Regents.

Membership Data

As of August 31, 2001, the membership of ACPM totaled 1943 dues paying members. This continues a trend of gradual membership decline. It underscores the need for serious action to maintain our membership and dues base. ACPM staff have completed a draft of a "Membership Recruitment" marketing plan that will be shared with the Committee soon. Staff have also completed a first draft of a membership satisfaction survey to better understand how the membership views the College.

In addition to the 1943 dues paying members, there are currently 206 ‘Six-month promotion members’ in the ACPM database. These members are recent diplomates of the ABPM. They have all been offered the free six months of membership with ACPM to encourage them to join. Membership applications will be mailed to this group in December.

In addition, applications for Fellowship were recently sent to 220 qualified members.

Three invoice mailings have been mailed for the 2001/2002-membership year. As of September 27, 1208 members have paid resulting in a total of $210,255 being collected. This compares with 2 invoices at the same time last year with 817 members paying $176,655.

Two more invoices will be mailed by the end of October. ACPM Board of Regents members will be called upon to contact the delinquent members in their regions.

ACPM currently exhibits at five annual meetings (APHA, ACOEM, AAFP, ACP-ASIM and ACPM). The cost to exhibit at these meetings runs $2,000-3,000 per show, and the membership committee will discuss whether this is a good use of ACPM dollars or how to ensure that the exhibits can be as productive as possible.

Bylaws Changes

The Membership Committee is recommending a change to the ACPM Policy Manual. The change addresses reinstatement of Fellows who have been deleted for non-payment of dues. The following language is proposed to replace the last paragraph in Section 4.2 of the Policy Manual.

"When a Fellow is deleted from ACPM membership for non-payment of dues. The Fellow may reinstate his/her membership via one of the following two options:

Option 1) The Fellow may reinstate as an ACPM Member by paying the current year’s membership dues (based on month rejoining). He/she may then follow the current membership rules governing Fellowship and reapply for Fellowship when qualified.

Option 2) The Fellow may pay a reinstatement fee of $150 plus the current year’s Fellowship dues (based on month joining). He/she will then be reinstated as a Fellow in good standing."
