Membership Committee Report
November 2002
Chair: Miriam Alexander, MD, MPH,
FACPM
Staff: Jennifer Edwards
The Membership Committee is
pleased to share current membership information with the Board of
Regents. For the first time in three years, the number of College
members increased. As of August 31, 2002, we had 1,972 paying
members. This is up from 1,943 members at the end of the 2000-2001
membership year. This number represents the number of members who
were invoiced for 2002-2003 dues. In addition, since August 31, 38
new members have joined ACPM.
In addition to our paying
members, we have 168 promotional members. These are individuals
who were newly Board certified this year and who were given
time-limited memberships at no cost. These members receive all
ACPM mailings, including AJPM, the ACPM News, meeting
announcements, etc. These memberships expire December 31, and we
will of course be working hard to convert these into paying
memberships.
Achieving a high renewal rate is
an ongoing challenge. As of October 15, three invoices had been
sent to members. As of that date, 1,304 members had renewed,
representing total dues payments of $247,335.
The membership program has
completed several marketing materials this year. Earlier in the
year, a revised ACPM brochure was developed and has been
distributed widely. We also have completed a brochure publicizing
our new Pfizer Practicum Rotation in Health Policy and Preventive
Medicine. Copies of this brochure will be available at APHA and
are being sent to all residents and residency programs. We are
still working on a "prominent members" brochure and hope
to finish this by the end of the year.
ACPM will be exhibiting this year
at the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine
annual meeting in April in Atlanta, GA, the ACPM annual meeting
and the ACPM Review Course. All three of these meetings usually
serve to boost both membership and Review Course sign-ups.
