Membership Services
We have initiated several new
services in order to increase the value of membership, one of the
three major goals set by the Board in Fall 1999. Examples include
establishing an electronic newsletter, developing an online job
service, upgrading the annual meeting, and better enabling members
to have a voice in ACPM policy activities.
Membership Data
Our membership numbers have
remained stable since last year. As of August 31, ACPM had a total
of 2,020 total members (930 Fellows, 363 Members, 311 Residents,
285 Emeritus, 77 Affiliates, 46 Associates, 8 Inactive). Although
we have in the past reported higher membership numbers, those
numbers were based on membership figures in the middle of the
membership year. We will in the future report our membership
numbers as of August 31 so that we can provide comparable data
from year to year.
Two invoice mailings have
occurred for the 2000/2001-membership year. Thus far, 1,442
members have paid their dues. A total of $233,575 has been
received.
Three more invoices will be
mailed by the end of the year. ACPM Board of Regents members will
be called up to contact the delinquent members in their Regions.
Membertrak
ACPM has greatly improved the
functionality of the Membertrak membership database by hiring John
Walters, a former Membertrak programmer, as a consultant. John has
become an invaluable resource to ACPM staff.
Recruitment Efforts
ACPM offered a free six-month
membership to all newly boarded Preventive Medicine physicians. Of
those receiving the offer, seventeen have thus far joined ACPM.
Seventeen physicians joined ACPM through the PREVENTION 2000
meeting.
Changes in Membership Policies
and Procedures
The Membership Committee has
recommended several changes to the ACPM Bylaws. The attached memo
to the Constitution and Bylaws Committee describes these changes.
Dues
The attached schedule of
specialty society membership dues is provided for the Board’s
information. The table shows that ACPM’s dues average slightly
less than the dues of most of the specialty societies that
responded to the AMA’s 1999 membership and dues survey.
