Membership Committee Report

March 2000

Chair: Miriam Alexander, MD                                                             Staff: Jennifer Edwards

The Membership Committee is pleased to share this report with the Board of Regents.

1999/2000 Membership Year: As of February 29, 2000, ACPM can boast 2,162 members (985 Fellows, 402 Members, 58 Associates, 96 Affiliates, 290 Emeritus and 331 Resident members).

The fourth membership dues invoice was sent out March 1, 2000 to Fellows, Members, Associates and Affiliates. As of February 29, 2000, 1801 members have paid their 99/00 membership dues resulting in $304,020 collected. The fourth invoice was mailed to 360 members who remain delinquent in their dues payment. The second dues invoice was mailed to Residents on March 1, 2000 as well.

Recruitment efforts: The largest increase in new members can be seen in the Resident membership level. In an effort to ease Residents from their former ‘anniversary date’ membership year into the ACPM ‘September to August’ membership year, the rate for present and new APMR members was reduced from $50 to $35.

Efforts are underway with ACPM staff and members of the APMR governing council to increase the benefits available to Resident members. We hope this will increase the number of APMR members who become ACPM members after completion of their residencies.

All newly boarded ABPM diplomates will receive a free 5-month membership starting in April and ending in August. A similar promotion was conducted last year but only for three months. We feel allowing the potential members to receive more ACPM benefits over a longer time period will increase our success in recruiting new members

The final installment of the JAM Communication mailing is in the final editing stages now and will be mailed out to 5,000 prospective members by April 1, 2000. The JAM Communication marketing effort has enjoyed modest success with approximately 60 new members. The final piece is the only one containing a membership application.

A Fellowship letter and application were sent out to nearly 170 Members who became eligible for Fellowship in 1999. Many Members have already taken advantage of this opportunity to become an ACPM Fellow.

Database concerns: We finally have some good news regarding the ACPM Membership database, Membertrak. ACPM was able to hire John Walters, former PSI programmer (Membertrak vendor) on a consulting basis to fix many of the problems associated with Membertrak.

Changes to the membership application: The new application has been simplified to eliminate confusion about making pro-rated dues payments. We have eliminated the need for sponsorship signatures as part of the membership application. This is being replaced by letters from the Regional Regent to the new member. The membership application has been revised to allow for easy payment by credit card. The membership categories and criteria have also been clarified.

Joint Membership opportunities: The Membership Committees of both ACPM and the Aerospace Medical Association continue to review the joint membership proposal offered by ACPM.

The Membership department is continuing to work with Jennifer Wolf Jones at the AMA to construct a joint membership proposal.
