Membership
Committee Report
February 2002
Chair: Miriam
Alexander
Staff: Jennifer Edwards
The Membership Committee is
pleased to share current membership information with the Board of
Regent.
Membership data:
As of January 31, about 85% of our members had renewed their
membership for the 2001/2002 membership year. This appears to be
running at about the same pace as last year. In addition, 82 new
members have signed up since September 1, 2001. Five new members
joined after receiving our six-month promotional package
(following their passing of the Board exam), and 18 new members
have signed up to date via the PM2002 "New Member
Packages".
Invoices: Five
invoices had been mailed to ACPM members. A total of $294,465 has
been collected in membership dues leaving approx. $37,735
outstanding. Staff are beginning to contact all delinquent members
for payment. Board members and regional regents will also be
recruited for this effort.
Membership Recruitment Plan: At
the San Antonio meeting, the Membership Committee will review an
eight point membership recruitment plan. A copy of the plan is
attached.
Bylaws: It
has come to the attention of the Membership Committee that our
practice of allowing members who are board certified by the
American Osteopathic Board -- but not an American Board of Medical
Specialties board -- to become ACPM Fellows is inconsistent with
our bylaws. In fact, the ACPM membership application itself states
that Fellowship can be granted to any physician boarded by the
ABPM, ABMS or AOA board, although this differs from our bylaws.
The Membership Committee will review this issue at its upcoming
meeting and present a recommendation to the Board and to the
Constitution and Bylaws Committee to ensure that our policies and
practice are consistent.
Honorary Members: The
Membership Committee will also make a recommendation to the
Constitution and Bylaws Committee regarding procedures for
identifying "Honorary Fellows" of the College.
Membership Satisfaction:
A small work group chaired by Don Gemson has been formed to
develop a survey instrument that can be used to measure members’
satisfaction levels with their College membership. We hope this
will then become one of our organizational performance measures.
