In recent months, there has been a growing emphasis on the role of Medicaid in promoting population health. The second round of State Innovation Model applications requires states to include a plan for how Medicaid and other payers will address population health, and the recent Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission report dedicated a chapter to this issue.

The National Association of Medicaid Directors (NAMD) is hosting a webinar to provide an example for states as they explore the relationship between Medicaid and population health. The webinar will delve into Oklahoma and Vermont's innovative approaches to build partnership across Medicaid and public health agencies through the case study of cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention. The webinar will take place on August 12 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. EDT. During the discussion, Medicaid and public health officials from these two states will share key lessons learned in building interagency collaboration in the context of their work around CVD prevention. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in a robust dialogue around these key issues.

NAMD is hosting this webinar as part of its work with the Million Hearts campaign - a national initiative aimed at preventing one million heart attacks and strokes by 2017 - and in coordination with the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO). A joint fact sheet is also available that describes opportunities and resources for Medicaid programs to promote CVD. The fact sheet is available on NAMD's website: http://medicaiddirectors.org/node/1016.

To RSVP for the call or for more information, please email Lindsey Browning at Lindsey.browning@medicaiddirectors.org.

We hope you can join usfor the webinar and disucssion on August 12.
