Description:
Fully accredited by the Accreditation
Council for Graduate Medical Education and
the American Osteopathic Association, the
Preventive Medicine/Public Health
Residency Program of the Palm Beach County
Health Department (PBCHD) offers a
valuable learning opportunity to develop
and increase physician competencies in
public health practice, program planning
and administration in a dynamic and unique
agency. Our program is offered to both
allopathic and osteopathic applicants.
This residency offers a two-year PGY2/PGY3
program as well as a PGY3 program
opportunity.
The
residency program provides the practicum
year (PGY3) required to take the board
certification exam in preventive medicine.
The applicant must have the Master in
Public Health (MPH) degree prior to
beginning the residency. We also offer a
two-year residency (PGY2/PGY3) for those
who do not have an MPH degree. We have an
Affiliation Agreement with Nova
Southeastern University (NSU) to obtain
the MPH concurrently with clinic rotations
and the practicum year.
Our
residency program has public health as its
primary focus. Out goal is to train
physicians to become public health leaders
who have an understanding of the
importance and role of public health as a
component of preventive medicine.
Our
residents take with the broad and varied
experiences in public health care needs
and services, health care administration,
and the importance of community
involvement.
The
Program Year 2 (PGY2) residents receive a
stipend of approximately $32,000 per annum
and PGY3 resident stipends are
approximately $34,000. All residents are
employed by NSU.
To be
accepted into the Preventive Medicine
Residency Program, an applicant must hold
an M.D. or D.O. degree, have completed a
PGY1 year in an accredited program in the
US, and must become licensed in Florida
prior to beginning the program.
