Program Description:
The New York City Department of Health and
Mental Hygiene Residency in Public
Health/Preventive Medicine, associated
with the Columbia University Mailman
School of Public Health, offers a unique
learning opportunity in a dynamic urban
setting. The fully accredited two-year
program consists of a 35-hour/week
practicum at the Department and concurrent
academic work toward a Master of Public
Health Degree at the Columbia University
Mailman School of Public Health.
In the first of their combined
Academic/Practicum years, residents rotate
through Divisions of the Health Department
such as Disease Control, Environmental
Health, Epidemiology, Health Care Access
and Improvement, Health Promotion and
Disease Prevention, and Mental Hygiene. In
their second year, residents conduct a
long-term applied research project.
