Description:
The Aerospace Medicine (AM) residency is a
3 year program designed to prepare the
graduate for leadership billets as senior
medical officers on aircraft carriers or
in aviation and operational medicine
billets in the Navy and Marine Corps. The
program includes a PGY2 academic
curriculum (FTOS) leading to a MPH,
followed by two years (PGY-3 and
4) at the Naval Operational Medicine
Institute in Pensacola, FL. The practicum
rotations emphasize aircraft
accident investigation and environmental
physiology and toxicology with respect to
the biologic effects of altered pressure,
temperature, atmosphere chemistry, and
ionizing radiation. Facilities are
available for laboratory and clinical
investigation of problems with direct
application to aerospace medicine. Formal
research projects are an integral part of
the practicum phase.
