Program Description: The Morehouse School of Medicine/Georgia Division of Public Health, Public Health/Preventive Medicine Residency Program is a two-year program that provides integration of the practicum and academic activities over a two-year period. Its focus is on public health practice and community-oriented preventive medicine with emphasis on those skills needed by physicians who direct state, district, and county health departments. The academic portion of the program is obtained through the MPH Program at Morehouse School of Medicine. This program is accredited by the Council on Education in Public Health (CEPH). The residency program prepares residents for positions that require broad knowledge of the field of public health. It emphasizes public health policy, skill development, and problem-solving competence.

In the practical or field experience, the resident works in various areas of the Georgia Division of Public Health such as Epidemiology, environmental health, social/cultural/behavioral aspects of public health, and clinical preventive medicine, and receives additional experience in a district health office. All rotations are supervised by qualified faculty and staff from the sponsoring institutions. Residents participate in a series of ongoing seminars and conferences sponsored by Morehouse, the Georgia Division of Public Health, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Requirements for admission to the residency training program include an MD or DO degree; one year of clinical training, preferably in primary care, in an ACGME accredited program; and eligibility for licensure in the State of Georgia.
