Description:
The General Preventive Medicine Residency
program at the University of Colorado
Health Sciences Center (UCHSC) was started
in 1987 in response to the growing demand
for physicians trained in preventive
medicine. The Department of Preventive
Medicine and Biometrics received full
accreditation in 1988 for a two-year
training program in general preventive
medicine. The two-year program fulfills
the ACGME requirements for both an
academic and practicum year. Joint training with other
specialties (e.g., psychiatry, family
medicine) may be arranged.
The
Program admits about three physicians per
year into the program and normally
maintains a total of six residents. The
practicum experience is tailored to fit
the interest of the resident and to
provide a well-rounded experience in
preventive medicine. Residents receive
salaries equivalent to the PGY2, PGY3,
PGY4, and PGY5 salary scale, as
appropriate. Fringe benefits include
health, life, disability, &
malpractice insurance, and tuition
coverage for MSPH course work (limited to
in-state tuition levels).
