Program
Description:
The goal of the UCI occupational medicine
residency is to prepare residents for the
comprehensive practice of occupational
medicine in a variety of settings
including clinical practices, corporate
medical departments, public health
programs, legal and regulatory
authorities, and academia.
The
residency is designed as a two year
training experience consisting of the
academic phase and practicum phase.
Residents in the academic phase complete
one of three graduate degree programs: a
MS in toxicology or environmental health
at UC Irvine or a MPH at the UCLA School
of Public Health. During the practicum
phase,
residents
spend much of their time in field site
rotations. The residency provides
practicum training in petro-chemical,
manufacturing, aerospace, and service
sector occupational medicine programs, as
well as in comprehensive occupational
medical practices and in public health and
regulatory agencies. Residents are
required to complete an individual
research project. Throughout the
residency, residents receive core
didactic, clinical, and research training
through interaction with the faculty at
the UCI Center for Occupational and
Environmental Health.
Admission
requirements include graduation from an
approved medical school and one year of
clinical internship and license to
practice medicine in the state of
California. The program will consider for
entrance to the practicum phase of
residency, physicians who have completed
both the required clinical training and
who have previously obtained a MPH degree
from an accredited institution.
