Program
Description:
We are a NIOSH and NIEHS supported
residency that offers multidisciplinary
and rigorous training in clinical
occupational/environmental (O/E) medicine,
with particular emphasis on public health,
musculoskeletal disorders, and respiratory
diseases. Applicants interested in the
intersection between clinical medicine and
public health will find the program
particularly attractive.
In
addition to a two-year traditional
fellowship model, we offer a four year
combined Primary Care Internal
Medicine/Preventive Medicine track leading
to double board eligibility in internal
medicine and occupational/environmental
medicine. The MPH program is an evening
course of training in public health and
combined IM/PM or fulltime OM residents
obtain their MPH while continuing
to pursue clinical training and practicum
experiences in industry and various state
and federal public health agencies.
Research
and educational opportunities are
substantial, as are field practicum
rotations in manufacturing, insurance, and
health care settings. The Division
provides consultation to the State Health
Department on matters relating to
occupational/environmental health and
residents also spend a two month required
rotation learning about public health
approaches to O/E health. Our residency is
especially strong in areas of
musculoskeletal injuries, ergonomics,
respiratory diseases, and medical
education. We have expanded our
division-based research programs in all
these areas.
