Description:
The unique physiological and developmental
aspects that make pediatric patients especially
susceptible to environmental harm are discussed for
infants, children, and adolescents. The variations
in susceptibility with developmental stages of the embryo
and fetus are also discussed. Information on routes
of exposure, with particular emphasis on exposure by
ingestion, absorption, and inhalation is provided.
Sources of exposure and counseling are discussed so that
the participant will be comfortable with taking a
pediatric exposure history.
There
are many environmental hazards that are especially
relevant to the pediatric patient. A discussion of such hazards
is
incorporated in appropriate places during the audio
conference.
