Future of Preventive Medicine Fund

Charitable contributions to the College have been steadily coming in from the fundraising mailing that was sent out in December. To date $6,905 has been received for the Future of Preventive Medicine Fund 2000. Special thanks to all that have contributed and special recognition to the new members of the President’s Society for contributing $500 or more.

President’s Society

The Development Committee determined at the November meeting that a cumulative contribution of $500 or more over a three-year period would entitle an individual to membership in the President’s Society. In addition, a lifetime membership in the President’s Society will be awarded in exchange for a contribution of at least $5,000. To date, Jonathan Fielding is the only individual to have been awarded lifetime membership based on this generous contribution level.

The second annual President’s Society breakfast will be held on Friday, March 24th in conjunction with PREVENTION 2000. All President’s Society members are invited to attend and will be presented with certificates recognizing their generous contributions to ACPM. The current list of President’s Society members (not including past presidents of the College who are automatically members by virture of their prior service) is as follows:

E. Jackson Allison, Jr.
George K. Anderson
Robert Carr
Roy L. DeHart
Halley S. Faust

Grant Proposals

The major development success since the last Board meeting comes in the form of a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. ACPM was awarded $330,000 to carry out an audience analysis on behalf of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force and the Task Force on Community Preventive Services.

Staff are in the process of planning meetings with the CIO Directors at CDC to discuss funding opportunities. This is being done in follow-up to the proposal to CDC last year which was approved but has not yet been funded.

Corporate Sponsors

The most exciting development opportunity that has arisen in the last several months is a potential opportunity to partner with Procter & Gamble. P&G is planning to release a new line of handwashing products and has inquired if the College is interested in leading a handwashing education effort. This will be a major topic of discussion at the upcoming Development Committee meeting.
