ACPM CORPORATE COUNCIL

The ACPM Corporate Council met for the first time in February. This was a very constructive meeting with the Council members suggesting many exciting possibilities for future collaborations with the College. The Council members suggested several changes to the charter of the Council. The Executive Committee approved the changes in April. The most significant change was to allow annual meeting contributions to be applied toward the $5,000 needed to become a member of the Council.

PFIZER PRACTICUM ROTATION IN HEALTH POLICY AND PREVENTIVE MEDICINE

Thanks to the hard work and irresistible persistence of Hugh Tilson, the Public Health Division at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals has awarded the College a generous educational grant to establish a residency rotation program at the College. On average, four residents per year will rotate through the College and will have the opportunity to work on a variety of policy-related activities.

MESOTHELIOMA AWARENESS

We received an educational grant from Eli Lilly and Co. to convene a media workshop on mesothelioma. With great interest in the impact of asbestos exposure at the World Trade Center site, the workshop received significant media coverage.

MISCELLANEOUS ACTIVITIES

Substantial effort is being put into business development activities for Preventive Medicine 2003. CDC is expected to contribute significant financial support for the meeting. We are hopeful AHRQ will do the same. We are in discussions with the American Legacy Foundation and the American Cancer Society about supporting the meeting. In addition, we have had visited in-person with several pharmaceutical companies who are likely to provide financial support for the meeting. GlaxoSmithKline has already made a substantial contribution to the meeting, and we fully expect a number of additional companies to provide significant financial support.

We have re-submitted our proposal to HRSA to undertake a range of adolescent health education activities. We have also submitted continuation proposals for our cooperative agreements with ATSDR and HRSA.
