Preventive Medicine 2001
Our fundraising efforts since our
last Board meeting have of course focused on the annual meeting.
The Development Committee is pleased to report that the goal of
raising $125,000 from external sponsors for the meeting has been
achieved. In fact, we have raised just over $150,000 for the
meeting. Two-thirds of these dollars have been raised since the
Board met in November! By contrast, just over $50,000 was raised
for PREVENTION 2000, and this amount was split between ACPM and
ATPM.
Listed below – in order of the
size of contribution to the meeting -- are the contributors to
Preventive Medicine 2001:
Agency for Health Care Research
and Quality
American Legacy Foundation
Health Resources and Services Administration
Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry
Bayer Pharmaceutical Division
Procter & Gamble
Eli Lilly
Merck & Co., Inc.
Quaker Oats
GlaxoSmithKline
TRW
IEEE
American Medical Association
Optum
With a successful annual meeting
under our belt, we hope to build on this effort for an even more
successful sponsorship recruitment effort for Preventive Medicine
2002.
Grant Update
Our top priority in the coming
months must be to obtain new sources of grant support. Our
cooperative agreement with ODPHP and our grant with the Robert
Wood Johnson Foundation will soon expire. Once again, we need to
determine how best to approach CDC to see if we can establish a
cooperative agreement relationship with them.
Our HRSA and ATSDR cooperative
agreements are into full swing by now. HRSA did recently
supplement our cooperative agreement with support for Preventive
Medicine 2001, however, these cooperative agreements are likely to
be level funded for the foreseeable future.
We are also experimenting with a
new approach that may be useful on occasion in developing grant
proposals. In response to an RFP from the National Patient Safety
Foundation, we issued a call via our membership listserve to
members. We announced that we were seeking proposal ideas along
with potential partners who may have an interest in collaborating
with us on a proposal to the NPSF. We have thus far received five
or so suggestions from members and will likely draft a letter of
intent to NPSF in March.
Other Revenue-Generating
Activities
Since our last Board meeting, we
have finalized partnerships with two companies. The contracts we
have signed will generate revenue for us while furthering our
mission. First, we have now contracted with YourDoctor, Inc.
YourDoctor develops health web sites that it provides to health
care organizations under the name of the contracting organization.
ACPM will review preventive medicine content on the YourDoctor-developed
sites and will also help link YourDoctor with preventive medicine
physicians to develop content for the sites. ACPM receives a
monthly fee for providing these services.
Second, we completed our
negotiations with DigiScript, Inc. to digitally capture sessions
and posters at our annual meeting. These materials will be made
available on-line to ACPM members and others for an annual
subscription. ACPM receives a portion of the revenues that are
generated.
President’s Society
We now have 34 members in the
President’s Society – an increase of nine since our last Board
meeting. A President’s Society breakfast is planned Sunday
morning in Miami.
We made our first disbursement of
dollars from our Future of Preventive Medicine fund. We gave APMR
$3,500 to distribute to APMR member for travel assistance to the
annual meeting. These funds are helping to support the travel of
APMR Governing Council members and of ten other APMR members.
