Youth Violence
U.S. Preventive Services Task Force
Recommendations:
There is insufficient evidence to
recommend for or against clinician
counseling of asymptomatic adolescents
and adults to prevent morbidity and
mortality from youth violence.
Adolescent and adult patients should be
screened for problem drinking (see Screening
for Problem Drinking).
Clinicians should also be alert for
symptoms and signs of drug abuse and
dependence (see Screening
for Drug Abuse),
the various presentations of family
violence (see Screening
for Family Violence),
and suicidal ideation in persons with
established risk factors (see Screening
for Suicide Risk).
