Oral Cancer
U.S. Preventive Services Task Force
Recommendations:
There is insufficient evidence to
recommend for or against routine
screening of asymptomatic persons for
oral cancer by primary care clinicians.
All patients should be counseled to
discontinue the use of all forms of
tobacco (see Counseling to Prevent
Tobacco Use) and to limit consumption of
alcohol (see Screening for Problem
Drinking). Clinicians should remain
alert to signs and symptoms of oral
cancer and premalignancy in persons who
use tobacco or regularly use alcohol.
