Motor Vehicle Injuries
U.S. Preventive Services Task Force
Recommendations:
Counseling all patients, and the
parents of young patients, to use
occupant restraints (lap/shoulder safety
belts and child safety seats), to wear
helmets when riding motorcycles, and to
refrain from driving while under the
influence of alcohol or other drugs is
recommended (see Clinical
Intervention). There is currently
insufficient evidence to recommend for
or against counseling patients to
prevent pedestrian injuries. See
Counseling
to Prevent Household and Recreational
Injuries
for recommendations on the prevention of
bicycling injuries.
