The American College of Preventive Medicine is a professional society for physicians dedicated to prevention. ACPM provides leadership in research, professional education, development of public policy, and enhancement of standards of preventive medicine for and on behalf of our members.

ACPM Mission

Preventive medicine is practiced by all physicians to keep their patients healthy. Preventive medicine specialists are trained in both clinical medicine and public health, and are equipped to understand and reduce the risks of disease, disability, and death in individuals and in population groups.

ACPM Among Public Health Organizations Receiving Zika Response Funding
August 24, 2016

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has awarded $6.8 million to national public health partners—including ACPM—to support Zika response. The funding is being distributed by CDC's Office for State, Tribal, Local and Territorial Support through an existing cooperative agreement and will help enhance surge capacity for Zika case identification and mosquito surveillance.

The one-day event explored the impact of a variety of societal influences on community health and included speakers: Robin Schepper, Robert W. Carr, Rick Brush, Tevi Troy, and many others.

ACPM Members Contribute to Development, Launch of Mapping Platform
August 9, 2016

The FCC's Connect2Health Task Force recently launched the Mapping Broadband Health in America resource, a web-based mapping tool that will inform data-driven decision making at the intersections of health, telecommunications, and emerging technologies. ACPM member Yahya Shaikh played a central role in the platform's development and ACPM President-Elect Bob Carr spoke at the launch event on August 2.

Choosing Wisely® in Preventive Medicine: ACPM's Top 5 List of Recommendations

The ACPM Choosing Wisely® Task Force has published plain language recommendations for medical professionals and patients regarding five of the most overused preventive services contributing to wasteful healthcare spending and unnecessary complications for healthy patients. The rationale behind each recommendation illustrates how treatments designed to promote health or catch conditions early can actually cost patients more money and lead to worse health outcomes in the long run.

Lifestyle Medicine Core Competencies Program
CME/MOC Education

Developed by ACPM and ACLM, the Lifestyle Medicine Core Competencies Program is an evidence-based online program designed to provide a comprehensive foundation for doctors as well as nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dietitians, health coaches, and other allied health professionals with an interest in learning the basic foundational principles of lifestyle medicine. Maintenance of Certification (MOC) is available for select medical specialties.
