As the national professional medical society for physicians who specialize in preventive medicine, ACPM is committed to setting the standard and assuring the highest level of ethics and professionalism for the College in its organizational and business practices as well as for the ACPM membership in the practice of preventive medicine. Responsibility for setting and monitoring adherence to these standards rests with the ACPM Committee on Ethics, established by the Board of Regents first as a development task force in 2006 then as a standing ACPM Committee in 2009.
The Committee on Ethics is responsible for ACPM’s:
- Code of Ethics - Elaborates standards of professional ethical conduct with which each member of the College ("Preventive Medicine Physician”) is expected to comply.
- Due Process Guidelines – Defines the process by which a member of the College may be subject to discipline if the member’s conduct conflicts with the standards and principles of the College.
- Conflict of Interest Policy - Provides guidelines to ACPM Regents, staff, and Members for avoiding and/or resolving conflicts between personal interests and the College’s interests.
- Guidelines for Relationships Between ACPM and Private Corporations – Provides guidelines and principles to assure that ACPM’s interactions with private corporations are conducted in the best interests of the field and of the public, are consistent with ACPM’s mission, and are not unduly influenced by the interests of the corporate partner.
- CMSS Code for Interactions with Companies – Endorsed by ACPM, this Council of Medical Specialty Societies Code reinforces the core principles to help medical societies maintain actual and perceived independence, and to ensure that a society’s interactions with companies will be for the benefit of patients, populations, and members and for the improvement of care in societies’ respective specialty fields.
Consistent with the CMSS Code, ACPM supports full transparency in its interactions with companies. As such, ACPM is making public a list of all of its corporate, foundation, and federal funding sources.

Opportunities – This document describes the process by which ACPM members,
leaders, and/or staff cultivate business opportunities for the College, and the
ethical, business, and mission alignment considerations and criteria ACPM uses
to vet all such business opportunities.
