ACPM’s Adolescent Health Initiative
The American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM), through its cooperative agreement with HRSA’s Office of Adolescent Health, is strengthening its leadership, organizational capacity and infrastructure to address adolescent health within the specialty of preventive medicine and across the medical and public health sectors.
ACPM aims to address adolescent health outcomes or risk factors, using the Healthy People 2010 21 Critical Objectives for Adolescents and Young Adults as a guide. ACPM is focusing on the six major health priorities defined by Healthy People 2010:
Unintentional injury
Violence
Mental health
Substance use
Reproductive health
Nutrition and physical activity
ACPM takes a broad view of adolescent health, recognizing that healthy youth development and safe, nurturing environments are important in helping young people make healthy decisions.
Goals:
ACPM has established the following goals for the project:
-
Strengthen ACPM’s leadership, infrastructure, and organizational capacity to address adolescent health.
-
Improve the ability of ACPM members, health care providers and other health professionals to apply the tools of population medicine and clinical prevention to improve adolescent health, safety and well-being.
-
Work and participate actively within an inter-organizational, cross-disciplinary collaborative of PIPPAH program grantees and with HRSA’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) and other project partners to implement and evaluate activities to promote the four goals of the " National Initiative to Improve Adolescent Health.”
